Bachelor of Environments

Why Choose Environments at Melbourne?

A truly ‘new generation’ experience

The Bachelor of Environments is truly a new-generation degree, and is taught between four different faculties (Architecture Building and Planning, Engineering, Land and Environment & Science). This unique multi-faculty program provides opportunity to engage with differing technologies and teaching styles, whilst focussing on the problems facing the natural, built and physical environments. This also allows our students opportunities both in and outside the classroom to engage with a wide range of academics, researchers and professionals.

11 professional attributes in one program

Enrolling in a the uniquely multi-disciplinary Bachelor of Environments provides students a learning and skill-development experience from multiple professional perspectives, ranging from studio-based design, planning projects such as new cities, technology-based learning in the brand new Engineering IT teaching hubs, designing virtual spaces in the digital design ‘crib’, or learning new land management techniques on a rural field-trip.

To encourage our students to choose the best professional pathway, special programs such as KickStart Your Career Environments, Career Mentoring Programs and other special workshops are available to build job-readiness skills, these are provided through partnership with the Careers and Employment Unit.

Student Centre

The Environments are serviced by a group of 22 dedicated professional staff who assist in all aspects of the out-of-the-classroom assistance, enrolment, support and services; being centrally located on campus in the Old Commerce Building. To assist in meeting the needs of the modern student in the 21st century the Student Centre has developed a social networking presence through Facebook and the course advice team can also be contacted through instant message services (msn).

Community of students

2008 saw the very first year of Bachelor of Environments and has brought together an exceptional group of bright young students from right across Australia, New Zealand and over 80 countries, all these students have had the opportunity to join the newly formed Environments Student’s Society – ENVI, who host events, provide academic support and develop a more enriching experience for our students.  ENVI have a website to be launched in 2009, but in the meantime can be found on Facebook .

Along side ENVI are some other student groups, who represent students in their respective majors once they have selected them in their second year onwards:

Environments students contribute to the wider-community also, through volunteering and leadership programs, which take place both on and off-campus.  Opportunities to get involved are central to the Environments experience, check out the LIVE (Leadership, Volunteering, Involvement, Experience) Unit for more information.
